Treatment of Petroleum Refinery Wastewater by Sono Fenton Process Utilizing the in-Situ Generated Hydrogen Peroxide

Combining ultrasonic irradiation and the Fenton process as a sono-Fenton process, chemical oxygen demand (COD) in refinery wastewater was successfully eliminated using response surface methodology (RSM) with central composite design (CCD). The impact of two main influential operational parameters (iron dosage reaction time) on COD removal from generated by an Iraqi petroleum facility explored. Removal 85.81% attained under optimal conditions 21 minutes 0.289 mM concentration. Additionally, results revealed that concentration has highest effect elimination, followed time. high R2 value (96.40%) validated strong fit model equation successful adopting RSM treatment wastewaters refineries. Furthermore, comparison among sono-Fenton, addition externally, classical sonolysis processes showed combined is better than individual external .
